This article aims to highlight a particular way of promoting holiness in the heart of Early Modern Europe: the literary exercise of mimetic confusion between Teresa of Ávila and the rest of the saints already canonized, carried out by one of its greatest promoters, Jerónimo Gracián. The study tries to delineate the virtuous character of sanctity proposed by the Valladolid friar and the adjustment of Teresa’s figure to that orthodox model. Then, we will observe the association Gracián does for uniting Teresa with the group of saints already haloed, insinuating throughout his various writings an essential link between them. We can affirm that the literary promotion of an aspiring saint is a device that her promoters need to promote, even beyond the classic hagiographic texts.
