Given the new research and the development of drug release platforms, it is a major to have mathematical models that are capable of describing the release profile, since they allow elucidating the mechanisms occurring during the process and obtaining pharmaceutical parameters of relevance. In this work, the versatility of the mathematical model called Lumped applied in different types of pharmaceutical formulations, based on multiparticulate systems (solid dispersions), membranes (films), semisolid systems (hydrogels), Dome Matrix technology systems and Swellable Drug Polyelectrolyte Matrices. The Lumped model fitted very well the dissolution data obtained from these systems (R2 ≥ 0.96). The calculated values of the pharmaceutical parameters allowed characterizing the biopharmaceutical behavior of the evaluated systems. The Lumped model is versatile and robust to fit the data obtained from different formulations and configurations. In addition, it can be combined with other models to evaluate complex release profiles, such as Dome Matrix systems and Swellable Drug Polyelectrolyte Matrices.
