Using data from the Argentine sample of the World Values Survey (2013), this article explores the factors associated with individual attitudes towards violence against women as well as possible gender differences in these factors. On the one hand, the results indicate that gender, age, education, life satisfaction, patriarchal ideology, gender role attitudes and the use of newspaper and television as sources of information influence these attitudes. On the other hand, there are no differences between men and women when it comes to these factors. Given that acceptance of violence against women is one of the risk factors for its occurrence, this article suggests possible intervention strategies to eradicate this social problem. The educational system and the media are presented as effective tools to raise awareness among individuals. Greater efforts should be aimed at young people and boys as they are the most likely to hold attitudes that perpetuate violence.
