We evaluated the effect of transplant depth on calafate seedlings (Berberis microphylla) on aerial and root morphological modifications. In the CIEFAP nursery (Esquel-Chubut) we transplanted three-yearold seedlings, which had two previous transplant depths (collar level - NC and covered collar - CC), resulting in three treatments NC-NC; NC-CC and CC-CC. Using a completely randomized design with fifteen repetitions, we evaluated morphological characters of the aerial part and flowering two years; and the root system of nine seedlings in the second year. The initially NC calafates showed a tendency to increase aerial development, with greater shrub volume, length of the main stem, percentage of flowering and fruits, without significant differences. The calafates that always had their collar covered showed high root development (dry weight and level of branching), with adventitious roots and rhizomes. These results offer valuable information for the domestication of the species, the management and restoration of its populations.
