The abundance of tin, a mineral resource of punctual location in northwestern Argentina and key to the manufacture of tin-bearing bronze objects, contrasts with the low population density of western Tinogasta, Catamarca. In this paper we present different social scenarios developed between the 7th and 16th centuries in relationship with the appropriation and exploitation of tin. To do this we articulate, through a relational methodology, the location of the ores, the archaeological sites, the circulation routes, and different kinds of evidence, such as objects, plates and slag from museum collections, written sources, architecture and rock art.
