In line with the framework of current discussions on the concept of citizenship, this article aims to contribute to the construction of analytical tools that enable an approach to the problem of its constitution and exercise from an anthropological perspective and by dealing from a specifically ethnographic viewpoint. Thus, the article reviews the theoretical development that permitted to hamper the liberal notion of citizenship conceived as legal status based on formal universalism; it also reflects on the bonds among the process for citizenship and location of subjects within the urban space starting from an ethnographic field work carried out by the authors on people residing at a housing complex in the city of Buenos Aires.
