Through a Women’s History gendered perspective, this article centers its interest on a critical study of a 25 letters series that Prilidiano Pueyrredón wrote to Alejandra Heredia between 1853 and 1859. They met in Cadiz and got involved in a romantic relationship which lasted from 1852 to 1859. The goal of this inquiry is to recuperate Alejandra’s figure as projected in the epistles written by a male in love who was also her lover. For this purpose, three exercises will be conducted. The first one is a methodological approach consisting of a reflection on the accessibility, the location, and the characteristics of the corpus of letters. The second exercise tackles epistolary correspondence’s particularities during the Nineteenth Century using the content of the 25 letters as a reference. The third exercise describes Prilidiano’s characterisation of Alejandra . The final aim is to address the use of nineteenth-century male’s style to express affection, care, and support for the woman he claimed to love, and simultaneously to recognise how he described and prescribed his beloved.
