The Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) comprises socio-productive organizations from various economic sectors, which operate with varying degrees of connection to market and competitive logics. These organizations exist within diverse institutional configurations and form support networks whose characteristics significantly influence their sustainability conditions. Just as the innovation systems framework allows for understanding the coevolutionary dynamics between firms and their environment concerning the production, diffusion, and use of knowledge and technologies, this approach can be applied to the SSE. This article analyzes the role of a group of civil society organizations in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, in terms of the functions they perform for the effective operation of the SSE as a system. Using a case study strategy, interviews were conducted with representatives from these different spaces. The study confirms the importance of actors within these networks who fulfill functions related to financing, services, knowledge, legitimization, and market access to strengthen the sustainability of these initiatives. Through a theoretical synthesis of innovation systems in the field of SSE, it is possible to address these issues from a systemic perspective.
