In the 1950s, André Bazin wondered about what cinema was; almost seven decades later, that ontological question may be posed in topological terms: where is cinema? Today, facing its recontextualization, it is necessary to start thinking the intertwinement between audiovisual arts and the technologies with which they are produced, distributed and experienced. This paper discusses local and partial answers to archival and reproduction technologies that have changed the forms in which Argentine audiovisual heritage can be accessed and preserved. The article introduces the discussion regarding digital archiving and reproduction and presents the results of a survey of digitized Argentinian Cinema film websites. Thus it contributes to present the political and technological threats and opportunities for film preservation today, especially in Latin American countries. And it serves as an excuse to ask what is cinema today, where is it and if it still continues to be cinema.
