This paper presents a contrastive analysis of two grammars of the Guarani language: El idioma guaraní (Antonio Guasch [1944] 1947) and the Gramática guaraní (José Valentín Ayala [1988] 1996). From the theoretical perspective of Glotopolitics, these grammars are understood as emergent discourses from given temporal circumstances and under particular production and reception conditions in which different concepts of speaker, languages and grammatical knowledge are brought into play. Conceived in two different geopolitical spaces (Paraguay and Argentina) and each one representative of a particular stage in the grammatization of Guarani, the exegesis reveals the process of transition from the construction of representations of the Guarani language as the Paraguayan national identity to the “deterritorialization” of the language in the context of regional integrations.
