This article analyzes the relations of the student movement with political violence in Argentina between the coup d'état of 1966 and 1976: the exercise of violent practices by student contingents, the different repressive forms and the social representations of student organizations on violence throughout the decade. For this, a triangulation of quantitative and qualitative methods is carried out. The main conclusions aim to understand the diversity of ideas and practices about violence, its metamorphoses and, despite this, its immanence in political contests, thus questioning commonly used hypotheses about the period such as, for example, the “option for violence” or the dissociation between politics and violence.
