This article is oriented towards the investigation of the contemporary political face. Specifically, it will focus on the study of the mediatizations of the political selfie on Instagram in Argentina. These mediatizations are part of a historical process of insertion of politics on social media and mass media and in the history of the mediatization of the self–portrait. Digital spaces have deepened the process of personalisation and personalism in politics. And within this framework, studies of the presentation and representation of the political face on social media have become relevant. The aim is to differentiate, on Instagram, the selfie of the politician from that of the citizen, the latter characterised by the use of editing processes: filters and effects. In this sense, the aim is to capture the meaning–producing operations of the mediatization of the digital faces of Argentinean politicians in the digital era and to reconstruct the different enunciative strategies put into play. This work applies a methodology that comes from socio–semiotics and theories of the mediatization of Latin American and European politics. We conclude that there are different genres surrounding the mediatization of the political selfie on Instagram that involve different meaning–producing operations in play: the “political selfie”, the “political selfie photo”, the “political selfie emulator” and the “video–selfie”.
