This paper analyze the changes in unionism struggles during the last military dictatorships in Argentina and Brazil, attending to the particularities of two different models of repression to the Latin - American labor movement: in Brazil with almost two decades of trade - union repression, and in Argentine with a more irregular behavior (a constitutional government with the proscription of the Peronism, the dictatorship called ‘Revolución Argentina’, the third peronist government, and the last military dictatorship ‘Proceso de Reorganización Nacional’). This fram ework allows us to consider the changes in the fighting trade unions, with the displacement of the Brazilian communist party, and the crisis of the Argentine Peronism, in the context of the ‘new authoritarianism’, based on repression and forced disappearan ce of the radical militancy.
