The article presents an epistemological review of the relationship between the energy dimension of habitat and its approach from the communication sciences. For this, the constitution of the ! eld of communication sciences is exhibited, emphasizing its fertile and enabling condition to address Relevant Social Problems. It proposes to understand energy as an essentially socio-technical object and from communication to understand how energy policy is constructed as a relevant social problem. To this end, emphasis is placed on a public policy linked to habitat production, and research is retaken that, from the ! eld of communication, addressed the public discussion around the increases in gas and electricity rates in 2016 in which they converged various political narratives. Thus, it is considered that the understanding of the mediatic functioning of senses that pretend to be hegemonic, such as the of! cial discourse of the tarifazo (high and sudden increase in the rates of public services), accounts for the interstices to which communication allows access when the traditional forms (mediacentrism and sociocultural approach) of the work of the communicator/researcher and merge with other perspectives that complement it.
