Nowadays, there is general scientific agreement on the importance of “coping” as a mediator between stressing circumstances and health. Nevertheless, not all coping efforts are healthy and constructive. Some individuals adopt strategies that represent difficulties rather than solutions. The purpose of the present work was to check the relation between the intensity of perception of the stressing situation and the subject’s choice of a determined coping strategy. The results showed that individuals with an intense perception of the stressing situation tended to use two non-adaptive strategies, Self Blaming and Failure to Cope, compared to those whose perception of stress was moderate or low. In opposition to this, these groups sought greater social support to solve problems. Identifying non-efficient coping strategies helps preventing further psychological maladjustments.
