In this article I analyze the influence of the subjective theory of value of Carl Menger in the developments of Friedrich von Hayek on the use of knowledge as an instance of production of value by the entrepreneur. In a first section, I focus on the analysis of the aforementioned Menger theory as an issue of an economy that questions the importance of the study of material production, while criticizing the resource of historical perspective. Then, I analyze Hayek's recovery of this theory when describing the price system as an informing mechanism for the use of knowledge in the production of value. Finally, in a final section, I analyze the way in which, from such developments, the figure of the entrepreneur emerges as the dynamic subject of the economy. The hypothesis that guides the article is that the subjective theory of value elaborated by Menger allows Hayek, on the one hand, to substitute the figure of the worker as the producer of value by the figure of the entrepreneur; on the other, to replace the idea of social change by the idea of adaptation to market variations.
