In June 2017, the government of Mauricio Macri canceled 70 thousand non-contributory pensions for inability to work. In Argentina, these pensions are granted to those who reach a degree of occupational disability of 70% and are in vulnerable socioeconomic conditions. In this article we analyze the representations around the withdrawal of pensions, from an interdisciplinary perspective that articulates the social studies of disability with the studies in communication and culture. In order to this aim, we studied the media visibility given to the issue in the Clarin and La Nación newspapers, and we asked: What aspects stood out in the media coverage and which voices were privileged? How were the protests and their protagonists represented? What definitions of disability do these stories imply? The way in which both newspapers cover the event results from their editorial styles and positions, varying in the type of sources consulted and the emphasis on the debates that have arisen around the measure.
