The section of the Salado River near the mouth of the Samborombón Bay, where the coastal shell chain (Platense) is located, was studied through chemical parameters such as salinity and ionic composition, between July 2000 and April 2001. In this section, due to the influence of channel 15 (widened and deepened in 1997) has a very low flow, causing significant ecological and socioeconomic changes in the region. As a consequence, during high tide the waters of this bay, with its high saline content, invade its bed. On the other hand, the presence of low salinity waters from the Cordon de Conchillas aquifer is recorded. The construction of a retention dam is suggested to minimize the lack of this resource in the region and preserve the aquifer.
