Studies on victims and victimization processes point out that the category of “victim”, despite referring to an idea of passivity, has the paradoxical power of generating audibility around political demands in contemporary societies. For its part, feminist literature focuses on discussing the semantic scope of this term and the effects of its use on women and diversities designated as “victims” of gender violence. Based on the analysis of interviews carried out between 2022 and 2023 with workers of “DOVIC”, “Línea 144” and the “Acompañar” program, in this article we address the specific ways in which the operators of these institutions use and define this category, in its daily assistance to women and LGBTQI+ people who suffer gender-based violence.
