Studies on Argentine foreign policy have traditionally focused on the State and its agencies, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This paper analyzes the role of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) as an agent of foreign policy, highlighting its capacity to act autonomously in international forums and sign bilateral agreements, such as the Local Currency Payment System (SML) with Brazil and currency swaps with China. Based on primary sources, we demonstrate that the BCRA operate autonomously in collaborations, although it requires the intervention of other government agencies in more complex coordination. The research emphasizes that the BCRA´s autonomy is relative and conditioned because of the need of maintain a coherent national foreign policy.
