This article explores the work of Torcuato Salvador Di Tella during the period 1957-1970. After reconstructing his trajectory, the text focuses on the analysis of his first works as a professional sociologist, tracing what problems he studied from sociology. The hypothesis postulated is that because his interests were closely linked to politics, his sociological training necessarily had to occur in the practice of research, which would manifest itself in a scarce use of classical sociological theory. Thus, his inclinations led him to develop explanations of the main Argentine political movement: Peronism. This phenomenon was linked to a series of concerns such as the authoritarianism of the popular classes, the possibilities of forming autonomous workers' organizations and, therefore, their integration into a democratic political system.
