This proposal is result of a doctoral thesis, investigates the representations of university students have about “political” in order to notice its impact on practices within academic units. We examine the factor structure of university political participation in a sample of 431 students (19-54 years) in 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the Faculty of Psychology and Philosophy and Letters- UNT. We performed a Principal Components with Promax rotation on 19 reagents, finding 3 latent dimensions (Sabucedo & Arce 1991, Delfino, 20091) that explained 48.13% of the variance. The first factor grouped 7 items called Proselytizing Participation. The second factor grouped 5 items called Active Pacific Participation. The third factor grouped 5 items called Political Involvement. The consistency of the instrument was acceptable (Cronbach’s a.773 F1, .760 for F2 and .596 F3). From Student’s t and ANOVA tests, there were no significant differences in the factors depending on age. We found significant differences in the factors according to sex, completed year, faculty, discipline, student politic´s activism, student´s representation, vote in student representative´s elections, history of involvement and university political knowledge.
