The present article intends to investigate the role played by the Malvinas war in the Argentine democratic transition, trying to transcend its characterization as a mere turning point. In particular, we are interested in observing how it produced reconfigurations of meaning around the Malvinas as a national cause, as well as analyzing the transformations that arose within the Armed Forces and political parties, in order to better understand their impact on the subsequent democratic governments. We consider that, despite the deliberate absence of the war in the reconstruction of the collective memory undertaken by the Alfonsín government, it will have a decisive role in shaping the potentialities and limits of consolidation of the transitional government.
