During curatorial work in the osteological collection of extant specimens of the Vertebrate Paleontology Section of the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences “Bernardino Rivadavia” (MACNPv), the rostrum of a beaked whale was found, accompanied by an original document that details: “Found in the Camet beach, north of Mar del Plata by Mr. Félix U. Camet, year 1896. Donation of Félix U. Camet, June 1/1925”. This specimen (MACN-Pv 20115) is referred to Mesoplodon layardii, and although the material lacks a precise stratigraphic position, it constitutes the first fossil record of the species M. layardii for the Province of Buenos Aires. From a historical point of view, the material was found and donated to the MACN by Félix U. Camet, belonging to one of the pioneer families of the region and a prominent figure in the politics, economy, culture and social life of the northern area of Mar del Plata, in the state of General Pueyrredón.
