There is surely a mismatch between the personal projects of engineers and young students of these careers and market demands, because the more you demand a variety of engineering specialists, the more difficult it is to find them in the demanded quantity and quality. With a particular focus on technology engineers, the article investigate how this process affects their professional performance, quality of life and career aspirations, with a comprehensive approach that includes their sense of time. What is the impact of flexible labor markets (their segmentation or heterogeneity), and of the coexistence of different labor markets, to the internal career paths in the firms, and also to their insertion in external labor markets.
