The present essay aims to establish a link between the Outlines of Scepticism of Sextus Empiricus and Apology for Raymond Sebond of Michel de Montaigne regarding the philosophical activity understood as a “therapy”. For this matter, at first, we will defend an eclectic way of understanding the philosophical footprint of The Essays. Secondly, we will explain how the skeptic presents the development of the Pyrrhonic tropes to achieve his ethical proposal of ataraxia. In a third stage, we will analyze how the tropes, explained by Sextus Empiricus in his work, can be traced in the essay of the French philosopher. In the last place, we will give account on how the Pyrrhonic presence in Montaigne advocates for an eclectic and therapeutic profile that distinguish him from Sextus Empiricus in some thesis but, that brings him closer to a joint way of understanding philosophy as a therapy for life.
