This article analyses the stance taken by the Christian democrats in Tucumán during Onganía’s regime. Given the ideological points of contact between the party and the regime, the Christian democrats saw in this government a chance of accessing to positions of power. However, the ambivalent course of the dictatorship plus the social and economic implications of the sugar cane industry policies adopted in the province, triggered uneven responses on part of leaders and activists. Rehearsing multiple responses ei-ther collective or individual, ranging from support and collaboration to opposition, including other more or less speculative positions.
