Diamela Eltit's novel Por la patria traces a critical journey that dislocates, through a complex network of voices and discursive traditions, the symbolic limits of nationality from the embodied perspective of Coya/Coa, the main heroine, female, colonized, vexed and, at the same time resistant. In this sense, it is possible to identify the gravitation of a series of narrative elements that contribute to the formulation of a decolonial gesture that questions the scope of what is defined as the homeland or the nation. In particular, in this article I propose a reading that attends to the representation of space, to the reflection on the forms of language and to the particular reworking of other discursive genres (epic and tragedy, mainly) in the novel.
