In this paper a nonlinear control strategy for a bidirectional DC-DC converter that interconnects a battery bank with a DC bus in a microgrid is presented. The control strategy allows the output voltage regulation of the bidirectional converter at a desired reference value, in order to maintain the power balance when regulating the DC bus voltage and when the storage system is being charged. This is guaranteed even in the presence of great changes of the load connected to the microgrid, highly demanding loads such as constant power loads, and variations in the converter parameters. The controller is designed from the state space averaged model of the converter by means of a nonlinear control strategy based on feedback linearization, which allows to transform the nonlinear model of the converter into a linear and controllable equivalent one by means of a change of coordinates and the feedback of a nonlinear control signal, which cancels out the nonlinearities of the original system, thus allowing the use of a linear controller to meet control requirements. To ensure closed loop stability, the system energy is selected as the output, made up of the sum of the stored energy in the capacitor and the inductor of the converter, avoiding the presence of zero dynamics given that the relative order is equal to the order of the system. Simulation results that validate the performance of the proposed control strategy are shown.
