This study examines the effects of tourism and recreational activities on the natural environment of the southern hills of Tandil City, part of the Sistema de Tandilia, in the Buenos Aires province, Argentina. The objective is to analyze the modifications that such activities induce on the natural environment, with particular emphasis on geological and geomorphological elements, based on the perceptions of tour guides regarding these practices. The methodology combines in-depth interviews with tour guides, participant observation during guided tours, and site analysis forms, adopting an exploratory-descriptive approach rooted in the social sciences. The main findings reveal that recreational activities, when inadequately regulated, can alter abiotic elements of the natural environment. Furthermore, a significant lack of knowledge and implementation of environmental regulations by tour guides limits their capacity to foster sustainable practices among visitors.
