This paper aims to propose an alternative reading of the studies regarding the relationship between religion and politics —mainly in Southern Cone— from new theoretical keys, focusing on some contemporary approaches to the concepts of citizenship and public sphere. We will analyze the notion of faith communities as political subjects and instances for building citizenship, and their place within the heterogeneity of the public.
