Numerous studies show that stress can lead to the alteration of a person’s eating behavior (see Hill et al., 2019). The aim of this study is to identify the impact of perceived stress on various traits of eating behavior in first-year psychology students. Thirty participants completed two surveys: 1. the Eating Behavior Phenotype Scale (Anger et al., 2022) which evaluates five types of eating: hyperphagic, compulsive, emotional, disorganized, and hedonic; 2. the Perceived Stress Scale (Reyna et al., 2019). The association between variables was evaluated using Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and simple linear regression models were adjusted. The analyses show a significant positive effect, ranging from moderate to strong, of perceived stress on emotional eating (r = .55, ß = .18, p < .01, R2 = .30) and disorganized eating (r = .68, ß = .23, p < .001, R2 = .46) (Ferguson, 2009). The results suggest that stress can influence specific eating patterns, highlighting the importance of identifying them and implementing stress management strategies to promote better eating habits among students.
