Sanitary landfills are one of the most widely used technologies globally for the final disposal of household waste. The leachates obtained from these decomposition processes are effluents with a high contaminating potential characterized by high turbidity, COD, total solids, etc. On the other hand, the coagulation/flocculation processes are the most widespread due to their efficiency in removing solids and ease of operation. However, they require that parameters such as types and doses of sedimentation products, pH, temperature, and agitation system be determined and optimized. These parameters can be studied from the Jarras test. The present work consists of a statistical screening study to assess the significance of the doses of two coagulants (ferric chloride and aluminum sulfate), a flocculant (cationic polyacrylamide), and pH. A factorial design (24 ) was used, with a central point. The response variables were turbidity, COD, and total solids, while the objective was to minimize them concerning the crude effluent. After the screening study, the next step was to optimize the dose of one of the coagulants. From the results obtained, it can be stated that, for the effluent studied, the significant variables are the pH and the dose of ferric chloride. The interactions of coagulant/pH or coagulant/flocculant are also significant. This study obtained clarified products with reductions of 99% turbidity, 85% COD, and 14% total solids.
