The figure of the zigzag or serpent seems to have played a very prominent role in the Inka symbolic universe linked to the religious sphere. In architecture it has had less weight than in other forms of expression, however it appears in buildings that stand out for their importance in state ritual. Empirical cases of the architecture of El Shincal (Catamarca) will be approached, seeking to relate this signifier with Inka rituality, both from symbolic expression in itself and from its link with a specific performance. The results of this analysis are related to specific characteristics of what is considered ritual from a theoretical perspective, seeking to understand particular attributes of inka ritual from its own categories, given that the zigzag seems to condense specific meanings of the relationship with the world of non-human powers.
