The medieval Hispanic world was extremely heterogeneous. People from different cultural traditions, varied linguistic matrices and, above all, religious diversity coexisted there. The aim of this paper is to analyze the space that was dedicated in Revista de Occidente to Spanish medieval themes. Based on a survey of the articles that were published on this subject, we will reflect on the aspects of that culture that were most frequently addressed. Along with this, we will analyze the authors of these studies and we will put these participations in dialogue with their respective lines of research. We will frame the relationship of these collaborators with Ortega y Gasset, with the intention of elucidating why the founder of the magazine invited them to participate in it and to what extent the themes they developed were connected with the debate on the essence of being Spanish that predominated in the magazin’s first period.
