This paper constitutes an exploratory re-reading on Discipline and Punishing through which we propose certain reading keys related to our interdisciplinary framework, including philosophy, sociology and law. Our reading follows the trace of the incorporeal dimension, as well as the specific ways in which it becomes the target of punitive techniques, that corresponds to some of the problems identified with the idea of biopolitics, in a foucauldian perspective: the notion of governmentality and the necessity to make a distinction between “who must live and who can die”. This reading may allow us to introduce Discipline and Punishing into the “biopolitical canon” within Foucault’s work.
