Modern scientific knowledge has been described as objectivist, fragmentary, and produced by a subjective ratio. Its justification o f curiositas and its rejection o f any attempt to subordination are essential to their secularizing task. Finally freedom from value judgments has been adduced as a way of legitimizing its results. This paper attempts to show that such statements can only be made from a particular understanding of the scientific knowledge, which at present is in crisis. This is mainly evidenced by the recognition o f the interests at stake in scientific knowledge. The university, which only appeared as a business company legitimizing the process, can recover its significant and reconstructing role by the development of this understanding, its limits, and its possibility o f generating a way o f responsibility for the fragility and finitude that characterize human beings, who are capable o f associating the scientific knowledge researched and produced in their space.
