This study analyses the paradox of saving among older adults in Argentina and South Korea over the period 1960-2023, considering the impact of demographic ageing, the dependency ratio and demographic bonuses on the evolution of aggregate saving. Through a theoretical and econometric approach, it is shown that in South Korea the reduction of the dependency ratio favoured a higher accumulation of savings, while in Argentina there is no statistically significant relationship between ageing and savings, suggesting the influence of other structural factors. Furthermore, the results question the universal applicability of the Life-Cycle Hypothesis, highlighting the role of precautionary saving in old age. These findings underscore the importance of public policies that promote savings during active life and ensure the economic security of older adults in the context of population ageing.
