This paper presents the first results of surveys, field recordings, and analyses of archaeological evidence in the northern Sierra del Portezuelo (San Luis, Argentina), with a particular focus on sites featuring rock art (paintings, engravings, and perforations) documented there. The study examines the forms, techniques, superimpositions, and locations of these expressions, and proposes a model of spatial occupation and use by the populations who inhabited the area, based on a discussion of local data and comparisons with neighbouring sites. Furthermore, a relative chronology for the recorded evidence is suggested, corresponding to the Late Final Holocene period (ad 400-1550).
