This paper is part of a more general research project on rural schools and environment. On this occasion we focus on the analysis of environmental education [EE] experiences developed in rural primary schools in the central-western region of the province of Santa Fe (Argentina). Pursuing this objective, we first document the main EE activities developed in these educational institutions. We point out that in them it is possible to identify the incidence of organizations and social actors that, in line with global government agendas, reinforce through EA moralizing environmental appeals. We then reconstruct how, in spite of these appeals, it is also possible to identify in the educational experiences critical senses that come from the more general social disputes around the environment. By accounting for the complexity of EA in rural school daily life and linking it to more general social processes, we seek to make a specific contribution to the field of Environmental Education from the perspective of Social Anthropology.
