The article examines the poetics of Josely Vianna Baptista, with special emphasis on the collections of poems entitled Aire, dating from 1991, Terra sem mal. Com rolanças e mergulhos pelos divinos roteiros secretos dos índios Guarani, written in 2005, and Roça Barroca, published in 2011. The present research reflects on the different ways in which the Guarani expressive universe enters in the poems, disputing longstanding representations of the indigenous otherness constructed particularly by specialized ethnography during the twentieth century. The paper also analyzes the strategies employed by Josely in order to arrange the poem as a space of encounter, listening and questioning the Guarani culture, in a manner that the word becomes an ethical and cognitive space.
