The accelerated technological transition in higher education, catalyzed by the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed a profound gap between the mere availability of tools and genuine pedagogical appropriation by faculty. Based on a dialogue with academic literature and critical theory, this reflective article aims to unravel and synthesize the conceptual frameworks that explain this phenomenon. The argument is developed along four axes: first, “appropriation” is redefined beyond instrumental use, understanding it as a sociocultural and cognitive process; second, structural barriers such as the digital divide and teacher resistance are analyzed; third, a critical stance is adopted regarding the underlying commercial logic of educational technology, such as platform capitalism; and fourth, these debates are anchored in the context of the Colombian university. The main conclusion is the proposal of an integrative framework that, by articulating these dimensions, requires rethinking teacher training toward a model that promotes critical, reflective, and situated technological appropriation, as an essential condition for quality and equity.
