We present a conceptual prototype instrument designed for the rehabilitation of people with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) by means of electro stimulation and biofeedback. In a previous development done at the Centro de Investigaciones Ópticas, called Automioestimulador, (AUTOMIOSTIMULATOR) the technique of biofeedback was implemented to assist in the rehabilitation of upper or lower limbs for victims of stroke.(ACV) Through the mechanism of cognitive training the patient makes an effort in the healthy limb and shoots electrical stimulation on the paretic muscle, copying the movements that tries to reproduce in the latter. The actual development has added to these functions those of electro sequential stimulation of two pairs of adhesive electrodes placed on the throat. The purpose of these electrodes is functional and to train to swallow. To the previous functions electrically triggered by the patient, the agonist effect or reward, is added. This consisting that in face of a minimum movement of the paretic limb, or attempt to swallow the electro stimulator operates on the same muscle group to complete the desired started action. Biofeedback accelerates patient rehabilitation who adds to conventional electro stimulation his active and voluntary participation.
