The purpose of this paper is to give an account of the main contributions made by the Public Defender’s Office of Audiovisual Communication Services of Argentina, since its creation, to the process of consolidation of gender institutions in the country, and particularly, to the field of communication and gender. During the last 12 years, it has promoted a variety of public policies based on federal research, training and awareness-raising activities on the subject. Recently, within the framework of a bill promoted by the current president, its continuity was endangered. For this reason, this report is also intended as a contribution to continue recognizing the relevance of its work within the framework of the human right to communication free of violence and gender discrimination.
