The paper analyzes how the free trade agreements concluded by China in the beginnings of the 21st century, together with other preferential initiatives suchas the Regional Integral Economic Partnership and the Silk Road, have had animpact on the global governance of international trade. Through the contentanalysis of some selected documents, we sought to reveal if there has beenan evolution in the complexity and innovation of these instruments to whichthe chinese foreign trade policy has resorted to, and if they are initiatives thatadhere to the current order, or if, on the contrary, they suggest its revision, leading to a transformation of the global governance of international trade. As a result of the analysis, it appears that China has used the trade agreementsmore to strengthen its international participation rather than to reform the wayin which international trade relations are structured. The degree of innovationcontained in the documents is low, and it focuses on the issues of the so-called“21st century regionalism” and on the chapters of economic cooperation.
