In the first decades of the 20th century, due to the heat of the territorial expansion and the demographic growth in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, new neighborhoods were formed that little by little were building their own commercial and consumer networks. This article explores the expansion of shops and services and its gradual identification with a neighborhood far from the city center, Villa Devoto. In the first place, we try to document the possibilities that a suburban neighborhood offered in terms of employment for merchants, professionals and trade workers. Second, delve into their forms of sociability and the activities that strengthened their camaraderie. And, finally, to begin to reflect on the options for consumption that were available to them in this space by the residents of the Federal Capital. In this sense, we argue that commercial life, associative life and the enjoyment of free time were intertwined in their own geography.
