The aim of this article is to give a possible explanation for why dimension in Argentine Sign Language (LSA) concrete nominal schemas is conceptualized in two forms, within the cognitive linguistics framework. The data, which consist of four-hours filming of native LSA signers in real context productions, allowed me to identify the existence of two nominal groups: one where nouns modify its morphological structure to add a new meaning related to dimension (BUILDING-TALL, NOSE-LONG); another in which nouns are not modified and, instead, a syntactic construction is involved (SHIP BIG, WINDOW SQUARE). I point out that the morphological or syntactic instantiation of the meaning of dimension within concrete nominal schemas depends on two cognitive mechanisms: the kind of conceptual metonymy involved in the creation of the noun, and two phonologic properties of the noun (contact between articulators and one-handed/two-handed signs).
