The Impact of High-Performance Computing on Argentine Astronomy: Challenges, Advances, and Perspectives In Argentina, numerous research groups in astronomy are dedicated to analyzing large volumes of observational data and formulating theoretical models that require the use of High-Performance Computing (HPC). Computational astronomy has been a key driver in the advancement of this discipline over the past decades. This article examines the fundamental impact of HPC on Argentine astronomy, highlighting the achievements, current challenges, and future prospects. The issues faced by research groups due to limited access to advanced equipment and the rapid obsolescence of available hardware are analyzed. The urgent need for sustained investments in HPC infrastructure is emphasized to ensure scientific competitiveness at an international level and to maximize economic and scientific returns. Additionally, the article explores how computational astronomy contributes to economic development through the transfer of advanced technologies and talent formation. Critical challenges, such as the unpredictability of investments and the difficulty in retaining highly skilled personnel, are also discussed. These issues limit the country’s competitiveness and scientific autonomy. Finally, the acquisition of the Clementina XXI supercomputer is highlighted as a key advancement, whose success will depend on the policies adopted by the scientific community to ensure its optimal use and continuous renewal.
