Eisejuaz was first published in 1971, but it originated a few years before, in the interviews that Sara Gallardo, as a journalist of Confirmado, held in situ with a wichí from Salta called Lisandro Vega by Christians and Eisejuaz by the members of his community, during one of her trips to Salta, in 1968. In these pages we aim to study the human, heroic and spiritual path that Eisejuaz, in Gallardo’s fiction, follows in order to find the meaning of his existence; a search that leads us to questioning monocultural discourse that still remains in the scarce literary criticism of this novel.
