The province of Entre Ríos is a region with insular characteristics within the Argentine territory. When the first national census was carried out, it had a population that placed it as the most populous only behind Buenos Aires (city and province together) and Córdoba. In this work we have elaborated a sociodemographic profile in diachrony for the provincial department of Victoria from registers and censuses. The particularity of this territory is its late settlement in relation to the east and west of Entre Ríos and that its district structure did not vary substantially during the nineteenth century which makes it subject to measure and evaluate the evolution of its population over a long period. We will focus our analysis on migration and we will see the impact of violence on the population as well as the effects of agrarian colonization and international immigration. Also as, though perhaps more modestly than other departments, Victoria made its contribution to that demographic success.
